Our Conversation and Grammar class, designed by Dr. Martins Zarins, a language education expert and professor at Kyushu University (ranked #6 in Japan), offers a unique approach to mastering Japanese. We focus on teaching relevant, natural language using well-tested resources like the Genki Series.
Classes begin with immersive conversations where students and the teacher share personal experiences from life in Japan, making the culture more accessible. We then dive into grammar through interactive roleplay, applying knowledge in real-world scenarios like travel, business, and leisure.
Beyond language, our classes explore unspoken principles of Japanese ethics and communication, providing a deeper understanding of social interactions.
We introduce new grammar concepts through real-life applications, with homework assignments that include creative tasks like story writing and social media simulations. Our approach emphasizes personal engagement, balanced preparation, and effective time management. With 1.5 hours of weekly classwork and homework, students typically achieve moderate fluency within a year. Separate classes for adults and children ensure an engaging, peer-driven learning experience.
Our monthly Calligraphy class, led by Masamitsu Yanase, a certified Shodo practitioner, focuses on making Kanji characters more accessible and enjoyable to learn. By using case studies and interactive simulations, we help students overcome the misconception that Kanji is a daunting challenge.
Students engage in activities like navigating maps with Kanji or interpreting social media to uncover cultural subtleties, jokes, and hidden meanings. With expertise in Shodo, the ancient art of calligraphy, our teachers guide students to appreciate the deeper significance of each character.
As students progress, they discover that learning Kanji is not just about memorization, but about embracing the cultural stories each symbol represents. Our class blends the joy of the artistic process with practical outcomes, fostering a deeper connection to Japanese culture, one character at a time.
